time when alcohol was prohibited to allocate resources for the production of weapons
during WW1.
The term "moonshine" was coined due to the secretive nature of its production. People
would often distil their spirits under the cover of moonlight to evade law enforcement.
Moonshine was known for its remarkably high alcohol by volume (ABV), often
exceeding legal limits. Its production was a creative endeavour, with people using any
available natural materials to create their homemade spirits.
THE MAN BEHIND THE MOONSHINE
Harris, the visionary founder of Highland Moon, embarked on his journey during the
challenging times of lockdown, akin to the days of Prohibition when socialising and drinking
were restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Inspired by the history and allure of moonshine, Harris recognized an untapped opportunity
in the market, particularly in Scotland. His deep-seated belief in the potential of moonshine
led him to create Highland Moon.
Born and raised in Dundee, Scotland, Harris brings a strong sense of local pride and
authenticity to his craft. His roots in this vibrant region of Scotland have deeply influenced
the spirit of Highland Moonshine, making it a truly unique and genuine expression of the
Scottish spirit.
